Job Title: Trainee Ship Broker
Location: Mumbai or Gurgaon
Department: Dry Bulk Chartering
Reporting to: Senior Ship Broker
Objective
To support the chartering desk in day-to-day operations by managing cargo and vessel
circulars, assisting in quoting, documentation, and communication with owners,
charterers, and internal teams. The role will provide hands-on exposure to dry bulk or
tanker chartering with scope for progression into a full chartering role.
Key Responsibilities
Market Communication & Circulation
• Receive, acknowledge, and circulate cargo and vessel requirements received
from charterers, ship owners, and agents.
• Maintain and update daily vessel and cargo lists.
• Ensure timely internal and external email circulation of market opportunities via
group emails or brokers’ networks.
Support in Quoting
• Assist in preparing and sending freight offers or responses to cargo
requirements based on owner’s instructions and prevailing market conditions.
• Coordinate with ship owners/operators to gather freight indications,
availability, and vessel specs.
• Work closely with senior brokers to help prepare recaps and fixture notes.
🗂 Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain logs of open vessels, cargoes, and freight quotes.
• Prepare voyage estimations under guidance using internal tools or Excel-based
models.
• Assist in compiling charter party documents, CP addendums, and fixture
records.
Coordination
• Liaise with internal teams (post-fixture, operations) for smooth transition after
fixing.
• Support brokers in follow-ups with owners/charterers regarding open positions,
cargo status, and feedback on offers.
Learning & Development
• Understand fundamentals of dry bulk chartering and shipping market
dynamics.
• Participate in internal training sessions on chartering, negotiations,
documentation, and port/voyage operations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Graduate (preferably in Shipping, Logistics, Commerce, Economics or related
fields)
• Excellent written and spoken English communication
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and basic data handling
• Strong eagerness to learn commercial shipping and chartering processes
• Professional demeaner, attention to detail, and ability to handle pressure
Desirable Traits
• Prior internship or exposure in shipping/logistics is an advantage but not
mandatory.
• Willingness to grow into an independent broker role over time.
• Ability to work with global time zones and clients.
