Job Description for Senior Ship Broker
Location - Mumbai
- Existing relations/rapport with customers in dry bulk chartering is not essential.
Only candidates with provable, hands-on experience in dry bulk chartering should
apply. You must be able to work independently and conclude fixtures on your own.
Applicants seeking training, or those without direct dry bulk chartering experience,
are requested not to apply, as this role is not intended for entry-level learning and
we do not have the bandwidth to provide foundational training.
Core Responsibilities & Scope of Work :
The selected candidate will be responsible for end-to-end dry bulk chartering
execution, including but not limited to:
1. Chartering & Fixing
• Actively source and fix voyage charters, COAs, and time charters across dry bulk
segments
• Match cargoes and vessels by evaluating suitability, timing, positioning, freight
economics, and market conditions
• Lead negotiations on freight/hire, laycan, demurrage/despatch,
loading/discharging terms, and commercial riders
• Independently conclude fixtures and circulate accurate recap emails and fixture
notes
2. Market Coverage & Relationships
• Maintain and expand a live portfolio of owners, operators, charterers, and traders
across key dry bulk trade lanes
• Provide continuous market updates, ideas, and positioning advice to clients
• Build and sustain long-term commercial relationships through consistent
coverage and execution
3. Commercial & Market Intelligence
• Track global dry bulk markets, freight trends, vessel supply/demand, congestion,
and trade flows
• Generate actionable market intelligence and trade ideas for clients and internal
desks
• Contribute meaningfully to desk strategy, positioning, and revenue growth
4. Charter Party & Documentation
• Draft, review, and negotiate fixture notes and charter parties (GENCON, NYPE,
rider clauses, etc.)
• Ensure commercial terms are clearly reflected and legally aligned with agreed
recaps
• Coordinate closely with post-fixture teams to ensure smooth contract handover
5. Post-Fixture Support
• Support post-fixture matters including laytime, demurrage/despatch, NOR
issues, deviations, and claims discussions
• Liaise with agents, owners, charterers, receivers, and internal teams to resolve
operational issues
6. Business Development
• Originate new business opportunities locally and internationally
• Strengthen Company’s presence with existing and new clients through consistent
deal flow
• Represent the firm professionally in client meetings, calls, and industry
interactions
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates who meet all of the following criteria:
• Graduate-level education
• 2–3+ years of direct dry bulk chartering and fixing experience (voyage and/or TC)
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate and close fixtures independently
• Strong commercial acumen with clear understanding of freight economics
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Exposure to international markets and counterparties
• Comfortable handling responsibility, pressure, and commercial decision-making
Candidates without direct dry bulk chartering/fixing exposure, or those seeking
training, trainee, or junior roles, should not be considered.
Compensation
Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with experience, aligned with
prevailing market standards and performance expectations.
