Position Title: Senior Operations Manager – Post Fixture
Department: Chartering / Operations
Location: Mumbai
Reporting To: Director / Head – Chartering
Role Purpose
The Senior Operations Manager – Post Fixture will own end-to-end execution of all
voyage operations post-fixture, ensuring commercial protection of the company’s
interests, flawless contract execution, and tight coordination between brokers, clients,
and counterparties.
This is not a clerical role — it is a commercially aware, decision-making position
responsible for minimizing demurrage exposure, protecting margins, and handling
disputes.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Post-Fixture Ownership
• Take full responsibility for voyages from fixture recap to final closure
• Independently interpret and administer Charter Party (CP) terms (GENCON,
NYPE, etc.)
• Ensure strict adherence to:
o Laytime terms
o Demurrage / dispatch provisions
o Freight / hire terms
2. Voyage Execution & Monitoring
• Monitor vessel performance vs CP obligations in real-time
• Issue voyage instructions, coordinate nominations, and track milestones
• Proactively intervene in:
o Delays
o Port inefficiencies
o Documentation gaps
3. Commercial & Financial Control
• Review and finalize:
o Laytime calculations
o Demurrage / dispatch claims
o Freight/hire statements
• Work closely with accounts for:
o Invoice validation
o Collections follow-ups
• Identify revenue leakages and cost exposures early
4. Stakeholder Management
Act as the central control point between:
• Ship Owners
• Charterers
• Brokers (internal desks)
• Port agents
• Surveyors
• Internal finance team
Drive accountability and timelines across all parties.
5. Dispute Handling & Risk Management
• Handle demurrage disputes and CP interpretation issues independently
• Flag contractual risks early to management
• Support arbitration/legal escalation where required
• Ensure compliance with:
o Company policies
o Sanctions and trade compliance norms
6. Team Leadership (Critical for Senior Role)
• Supervise and mentor junior operations staff
• Review their laytime statements and documentation
• Standardize processes and reduce operational errors
• Build a disciplined, process-driven ops desk
7. Documentation & Audit Control
• Maintain complete voyage files:
o CPs, addendums, SOF, NOR, correspondence
• Ensure audit-ready documentation at all times
• Prepare periodic MIS:
o Voyage status
o Outstanding claims
o Revenue leakage tracking
Required Experience & Qualifications
• 6–10 years of hands-on post-fixture / shipping operations experience
• Background from:
o Shipbroking firms
o Chartering companies
o Shipping lines (dry bulk preferred)
• Strong exposure to:
o Dry bulk cargoes (cement, clinker, coal, fertilizers preferred)
• Degree in:
o Maritime / Shipping / Logistics / Commerce
Core Technical Skills
• Deep understanding of:
o Charter Parties (GENCON, NYPE, etc.)
o Laytime & demurrage calculations
• Strong command over:
o Voyage documentation
o Port operations
• Advanced Excel skills (mandatory)
Behavioural & Leadership Traits
• High ownership mindset (no follow-up dependency)
• Strong commercial judgment (not just process execution)
• Calm under pressure (shipping is time-sensitive)
• Assertive communication with global stakeholders
• Zero tolerance for sloppy documentation
